Life is a journey, right? We’re just on a road trip, passing through the world, headed for heaven! Yay! No more fires or hurricanes or sickness or crimes…
Seems like that’s all we read in the news these days! Everything is very uncertain, but I’m so thankful we don’t have to worry about anything! Because our great God has it all under His control! And that’s why I’m writing to you today! I want to bring joy and truth to people! I want everyone to know, there’s freedom in knowing the Lord and freedom in trusting Him with our whole heart and life!
Okay, you’re probably like, “what does this have to do with healthy living?”
Here’s the deal… I love researching about health and food and what effect different things have on our body. The results are scary sometimes! I mean, there’s so many synthetic chemicals being created, every year there’s more! The food that we buy has been injected and sprayed with pesticides and herbicides and I-don’t-know-what-else-cides. GMOs aren’t labeled very well here in the U.S. and more foods are genetically modified than we would like to think. There are more and more children with allergies to gluten and dairy and eggs all the time! Doctors want to inject us with vaccines and when I’ve looked into what’s actually in a vaccine, and the plan for vaccines becoming mandatory, it can cause fear to rise up in me! This world is not headed in a great direction!
But like I said before, there’s freedom in knowing that God’s got this. He sees the mess men have made out of food. He sees all that’s coming in regards to American freedom. And He will lead us through the lies and deception and help us to find truth! I have full confidence in that!
Well, I’m here to say, we have tried a lot of different healthy stuff on our journey since we were married! We’ve done cleanses, tried to eat low carb, taken different supplements and probiotics and vitamins, we took Juice Plus for a good 6 months, used Dr. Schulze Formula #1…. Yep, we’ve tried lots and lots of things! I don’t regret a lot of what we tried, although some of it seemed pretty useless!
I don’t regret the things, because we have learned A LOT! And I’m going to share a few things with you from what we’ve learned!
But first: I want to talk about what is healthy living all about anyway? Some of you are probably going, “That’s such an overused term! And this subject is over talked about! I can’t afford organic vegetables! And every day, there’s going to be another thing on the ‘do not eat list’! And how do we know the truth anyway? So, not interested! What does it matter what we eat anyway! I just want to enjoy food and enjoy life!”
So do I, people! I want to enjoy food, feel great about what I eat, and feel great after I eat! I want to eat in such a way that I can have lots of energy, have balanced hormones, and minister well to the people that I am called to! I want our daughter to grow up healthy, not having to worry about allergies or, dare I say it, cancer! That’s why this is such a passion on my heart! I want to use the resources God has naturally created and naturally sustain our bodies in such a way that it pleases Him! God didn’t create our bodies to digest synthetic chemicals and unnatural food! He created all things for us to enjoy while we are here on earth!
He created different resources to help with different ailments, and I believe that when we open our eyes that maybe the truth isn’t what we think it will be, when we go back to nature and use the resources God created at the beginning of time, truth will be there waiting for us.
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” Genesis 1:28-29
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19
So here’s some things that have helped us greatly in our journey toward natural, healthy living:
Pray about it.
Really, God says when we need wisdom, we are to ask Him in faith. And when we do that, He will show us answers! He will show us truth. He’ll help us to know and discern what is really natural and what is only said to be so.
One Step At A Time!
There’s a very common quote, I don’t even know who said it, but “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.” We can’t expect to overhaul our lives in a day! If we try to do that, we’ll burn out really fast! Because it’s completely overwhelming! Everyone has an opinion on what you should try, so just try one thing. Whether that one thing be a vitamin supplement, saying no to GMOs, exercising, or using essential oils.
For us, we started out when we got married with no MSG (also known as mono-sodium glutamate, natural flavor, maltodextrin, and multiple other terms) in our home. I grew up that way, and we felt very strongly that’s how we wanted to be in our home! Then I started reading labels for GMOs, and we try to avoid those as MUCH as possible. That means no highly processed white sugar, using organic white flour (hopefully some day will have a grain grinder to make my own flour!), and avoiding most processed foods! We do some organic vegetables and fruit, but mostly just try to avoid the dirty dozen; with strawberries, spinach, and apples being near the top of the list… And I keep learning more things and making little changes, one day at a time!
That’s our journey… Not all of you are at this place and may never be! And that’s okay, because each of us have to make decisions that work for our family!
What works for your friend might not work for you!
Our bodies are not all created exactly the same! We digest foods differently, react to preservatives differently, and supplements help each of us in different ways. There is not ‘one size fits all’ in anything! What may work perfectly well for you might be completely overwhelming to someone else.
Give yourself grace!
We aren’t going to do healthy eating perfectly all the time! We won’t be able to always avoid processed foods! Sometimes we eat out and don’t worry about ingredients! Sometimes we have hot dogs, because it’s easy! But does that mean, because we eat hot dogs once, that we fall off the band wagon and decide it’s too much work to cook from scratch? Absolutely not! We need to keep doing what we know is good for us, even though it’s not always easy!!
